Table Etiquette 101
A solid foundation in table etiquette will certainly get your child noticed for all the right reasons and bring him confidence in a social setting. Classes are geared and designed with age-appropriateness.
In this class, your child will have the benefits of learning table etiquette and social skills while at a restaurant which also offers unexpected situations that the group can learn from.
We begin the class with everyone introducing themselves and learning proper handshakes. Our meal begins with a dinner salad and introducing the placement of the silverware and napkin and where to leave the napkin…while at the table, when temporarily leaving the table and when leaving the table for the evening.
Fork and knife manipulation may sound basic, but children and adults, alike, struggle with the properness of these basics. This class is about showing the right way—not to point out something wrong.
How do you get through an unpleasant moment of food in your mouth? What is the importance of needing a tissue in your pocket or purse at every dinner? There is so much more to table etiquette than putting your napkin in your lap and chewing with your mouth closed.
These evening etiquette classes have been well-received by the fourth-graders and up. It's a night out where they are comfortable to socialize because they come with a friend and I'm actually fun, too, which takes them by surprise. It's fascinating to hear the groups open up and share stories about school. They are learning social skills at the table without really knowing it. They're comfortable and treated with respect. What a great, relaxed way to learn table etiquette!
